Linköping (SE)

Following a record number of visits at the Nobel Museum, Stockholm in 2013 Making Peace returns to Sweden between 15 February - 13 September 2015. This time the exhibition will be shown not in one museum but two!

Indeed Making Peace will be shared between the popular Östergötlands Museum, and the Swedish Air Force Museum, which following a radical redesign in 2010 was named Sweden's Best Museum 2011.

Both museums are situated in Linköping, a city with approximately 150,000 inhabitants (2013) in southern central Sweden. Known for its university, manufacturing (Saab) and high-tech industry (Motorola, Ericsson) Linköping aspires to become carbon neutral by 2025.

However Linköping was not always so peaceful! In 1598, King Sigismund was defeated by Duke Karl at the Battle of Stångebro. Several of the defeated king’s counselors were imprisoned at Linköping Castle for treason, and were beheaded on the central square in 1600, an act that came to be called the 'Linköping Bloodbath'.

Thankfully today Sweden can celebrate over 200 years of peace. That's longer than any other country ever.
